Operating since 1999, the American University of Armenia’s Digital Library of Classical Armenian Literature (DIGILIB) has been established as a platform for the collection, digitization, preservation, and presentation to worldwide audiences of some of the enormous cultural wealth contained in the rich holdings of the Armenian national repositories around the world.
The significance of the Digital Library goes beyond merely digitizing 2,000 works of 625 authors. The main strength of the Armenian Digital Library is that it is a dramatically advanced method of collecting, storing, and organizing information in a digital format. Here is how DIGILIB is different from other digital sources of information:
This instrument was developed with the use of the most advanced technologies of the 21st century and will allow Armenologists to conduct their research in a comprehensive and efficient manner. The Digital Library is not a logical extension of a physical library, but rather a method of preserving historical Armenian Literature from the 4th to the 18th centuries. |

DIGILIB was founded in 1999, thanks to the generous support of Alice Ohanessian from Boston, who financed the digitalization of Classical Armenian Literature for the first two years. |
